After reading through the chapter Lord Krsna's Entrance into Dvaraka I asked R (5) what activity or project he would like to do with the chapter. He told me he wanted to make the light art that we had seen a few days back on a YouTube video.
We needed a picture for that and R suggested we work with verse 33:
The insuperable ecstasy was so strong that the queens, who were shy, first embraced the Lord in the innermost recesses of their hearts. Then they embraced Him visually, and then they sent their sons to embrace Him [which is equal to personal embracing]. But, O chief amongst the Bhrgus, though they tried to restrain their feeling, they inadvertently shed tears.
R was particularly interested Krishna's sons embracing him.
For the activity we just used a pencil, paper, drawing pin (thumbtack), box and torch.
We looked at the art work by Satadhama Dasi from Narayani Dasi's Srimad-Bhagavatam at a Glance, Canto 1, to get ideas.
R and I then made our own attempt to draw Krishna embracing one of His sons.
We then used some Blu-tack to hold the picture in place on the box. R then used the drawing pin to punch small holes along the lines in the drawing. The holes also punched through the box. Once the hole punching was complete, we removed the paper and then waited for night to arrive.
In the evening we turned off all the lights and R and I took turns shining the torch in the box to reveal this rather sweet piece of art.
I selected verse 37 for one last activity:
The common materialistic conditioned souls speculate that the Lord is one of them. Out of their ignorance they think that the Lord is affected by matter, although He is unattached.
The bottle being the material universe, the water matter (we dyed the water blue, to make it stand out).
Krishna being like the oil, entering the material universe ...
yet not being affected.
