Gopastami
Today is Gopastami, a day to say thank you to the cows for giving us milk! Little Miss. S loved dressing up as a little cowherd boy this morning.
This is an important festival. It's not just about saying thank you to the cows. It's also about being thoughtful and loving in general. I would like my children to learn to be thoughtful about their actions, inluding what they consume. To learn to give and not just thoughtlessly take.
We're fortunate as we live near a goshala where cows are taken care of nicely. Our milk is delivered daily raw and still warm. Today we visited the goshala and fed the cows gaur and bananas and gave them a good scratch to say thank you.
Unfortunately not all milk comes from such cared for animals.
